Does not slow cook

| I have the 5.5l version of this breville slow cooker. It is a good casserole cooker, but even on the low setting it cooks at a rapid pace and boils at a high temp. Food would be overcooked if left for the day even on a low setting. I would be too afraid to leave it cooking like that all day, so I havent been able to make use of a feature expected from a slow cooker. Not a slow cooker! |

I have had my slow cooker for 8 months now and love it, I use it every weekend to cook food to freeze for the following week.
I cook food overnight and all day and it has never burnt any of my food.
I would also recomend Carolyn Humphries slow cooker bookS slow cooking curries & spice/slow cooking around the mediterranean.
Friends now call me the slow cooker queen, due to them all being given a meal from my slow cooker.
I would definatley recommend this slow cooker. |

| I recently bought this item. It's my first slow cooker and after searching high and low and reading endless reviews, I decided to purchase it! I've done 2 meals in it so far, and I'm happy with the product over all. It matches in perfectly with my kitchen, it stores away easily and it's easy to clean. The food cooks well too. We're a family of 5 which means it's ideal. I've seen the smaller version of this (3.5l) and it's tiny! So if you have a big family, buy this one! |

This slow cooker is extremely good value for money, it has a massive 4.8 litre capacity - enough for at least 8 servings - and the end products are perfect, tenderizing even the cheaper cuts of meat to make them melt-in-the-mouth succulent.
Good price, perfect results and low running cost - what more do you want?

| What an amazing piece of equipment. Stews like you've never tasted! Rice puddings used to be something I was forced to eat as a child so always hated them, but after especially/reluctantly making one for my husband I succombed and all that is left for me to say is WOW!! So creamy even with skimmed milk - delicious. |
Not a slow cooker, just an electric casserole

Breville VTP036 Slow Cooker, 4.8 Litre
This is a very efficient, good looking electric casserole at a very good price. But it is NOT a slow cooker.
A slow cooker needs to cook above 68 degrees C to kill the bacteria, but not much above 68 degrees to cook really slowly on the low setting - say about 75 degrees. Otherwise, if you put the food in the cooker in the morning and go out to work, when you get home in the evening it will be very overcooked. This is precisely what happened to me with the Breville, so I called the manufacturers to see if there was perhaps a fault with mine. They could not even tell me what was the target temperature for the low setting; but when I measured it, it was well over 100 degrees. No wonder the food was overcooked! |

| I have never before been able to cook a joint of beef - until now. I have had no problems with 'hard boiling' - this has cooked brisket, stewing steak, rump etc to perfection - unbelievable for me. My family are no longer scared of my cooking. |
